    Service access with security enabled

I haven't gotten into the details of the ramifications of using the new security features on the new Ricohs. But, one thing that concerns me is access to the service modes when security is enabled.

I'm under the impression that the service mode will be password locked with security on. Is this true? How do you deal with this? Will a password need to be shared with the tech? Do the network administrators give you a hard time over this?

Service mode is only locked out if the 'service mode lock' is enabled. (it is disabled by default).
If it was enabled it would require the 'Machine Administrator' to login and disable the lock before service mode can be accessed.

But cannot say I've had any problems with customers over this though.
As 99% of them don't know about the service mode lock and other 1% don't see a reason to lock out us techs.

I havn't even had the network nazi administrators want to lock out service as of now. I have had them change web logins though. The new machines have enough to make things complicated but most admin's have a hard time figuring them out.

As far as i know, this "feature" was implemented to get an approval for prosecuting Ricoh mashines in High Sercurity areas. As Credit Card manufacturers for example. Its always funny, when i get a Service Call from this Customer: when i reach the Factory, i have to undergo an approx 10 min security check, then an Admin attends me and stays at my side the whole job, even if have to go back to my car to get some further spare parts

"Service mode lock" off by default was just what I wanted to hear.

Most of the machines I work on are covered under a maint. agreement. I'm wondering how much wasted time I should tolerate to work on machines that require a machine administrator or web administrator (if the web page password has been changed as tonerbomb mentioned)

I'm thinking of requiring the user calling in the service request to contact the administrator for an appointment arrangement. Perhaps just providing administrator name and number and a mention that service will be delayed until arrangements are made to meet the administrator at an agreeable time.

I'm happy to help out, but.........
I'm tired of waiting around for the network folks......
