Got a color LD328c that keeps trying to add black toner then errors out as bad empty cartridge or w/e. I cleared out the the hose already(literally pulled the tube out and blew it out, don't ask). The pump looks like its not working. No evidence of toner dropping into dev unit. Even when I spring the latch on pump I get just a sparce trace of toner that falls out. The only thing is I picked up a 2nd hand toner supply pump from a junk machine and installed it. I guess its possible I pulled a crap one.., but I just want to know if there is absolutely anything other reason why the pump might not initialize? Dev unit spins. I even manually added toner into the unit and made it "happy" til it runs out again ofcourse. Is there an output check for this pump in the SP modes? How much is this pump new? I thought it was really expensive thats why I went for the ghetto fix. If there is anything else I could or should possibly check let me know. Thanks in advance.

I had a Ricoh MPC 3000 do the same thing, nad I know what you are talking about when you said about blowing out the tube. I actually had the ricoh rep. come out with me. They ended up replacing the machine under warrenty.
The funny thing is about a month after they swapped the machine out the customer had the same problem with the new machine. It turned out that the customer was shaking the toner bottle with the cap side down, causing the toner to basically plug the entrance side of the toner feed tube when it was installed.
I have many of these machines in the field this was the only account that has had this problem, but I now always make sure to show the cantact people at my accounts to make sure to shake the bottles cap side up. I have not had any futher problems in over a year. -
The toner pumps on these have been a known issue for a while. Replace them as a set, because if one is going, the rest will soon follow. It'd be a shame not too, seeing as you've got to strip the machine to death to get at them. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

add toner
I had this on a MPC 4000 I ended up uploading the nvram to a sdcard (sp5924) and did a engine clear tried the machine out after that and it worked fine. After that I downloaded the nvram back to the copier (sp5925) and right away it loaded toner for about 5 seconds or so and has been running ever since. I even cheated the front door and watched the toner bottle and it would turn like it was supposed to.Comment

I just ended up swapping the pumps around(black and yellow). I cleaned the original black pump clutch while I had it out though. The machine seems to be running fine now. I switched the pumps(which initially I wasn't sure if you could do) to get a final verdict on the whole situation. I'm sure now that it was the black pump that was indeed going out, and since I cleaned the clutch it seems to be holding up *knock on wood* in the yellow pump position. I fully expect if anything starts failing now it will be the loading of the "yellow" which would tell me indeed it was the pump. Definitely not a board situation. Putting in a 2nd hand pump got me thinking all types of crazy scenarios...I'm sure you've guys have been there before lol.Comment

Hello
Adding toner error.
This is caused by the NvRam.
Need to carry out two things.
1: Clean out the pump that is asking for toner, plus Pipes and sns at the rear of the toner tubes.
2: More importantly. Print of the Non standing data. Drop the Nvram and do a all clear. Reenter the Non standard data and do a Reg set up.
Cause: Nvram should write to the toner chip inside the bottle. It fails in doing this and there for keeps asking for toner. However the machine inside is clean.
Have a go. This has worked for me 4 times now and never been back to the machine.
Search under MPc4500 or adding toner on this site for more info.
