Update to Fiery System 4 software, log in with a Remote Desktop connection and download all the patches from EFI, and make sure you are running the latest firmware on the machine, too. You need to have a certain minimum firmware level on the engine to run System 4.

??? Good point - I only have a 7100, and just got rid of that (upgraded to a C900)

You probably need to check with Ricoh Support to find the latest version - I tried putting the latest firmware on the engine, and found it was not compatible with Ver 1.0 of the Fiery, and there was no download of 1.1, so I ordered the Disk, and just got another copy of 1.0.

I think they call it System 7 on that series not System 4 - my bad - but I've never figured out their numbering : shouldn't Version 1.1 of System 7 be System 7.1?

anyway, updating the Fiery solves a LARGE number of odd print related problems, but unfortunately won't make the engine run any better.
