MPC5000 touch pad freezes when scanning

I have a MPC5000 with an intermittent problem. The customer is scanning documents and the touch screen freezes. She is able to press copy mode and the touch screen works and she can make copies, she can go to fax mode and fax, but when she goes back to scan mode the touch screen is frozen. Only way she can get it to work is to turn off the main power and power the machine back up. It doesn't happen every day. I updated the firmware and it did not make a difference.

I'm think maybe the touch panel maybe not breaking contact from a touch, try the touch panel test to see if it locks up. Good luck.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

You should try to change the touch panel, though it doesn't quite sound like the usual faulty panels I have changed.

The first MPC5000s were delivered with a potentionally malfunctioning touch panel, something about the glue holding the panel together.

Seen this Happen when the Scanner Application Locks up. Perhaps Reload Scanner Firmware.

I just had an MP2550 do the same thing last week. I reloaded all of the firmware and have yet to see it happen again, though it has been a fairly short amount of time. I don't think it's the touch panel as a hardware failure would show itself on everything, not just one function of the machine.

            Hi there,

is there a SC-Code at the time, the machines freezes? Try to look in the SMC-List.

Had a Savin 9050 give an SC Code related to the Touch Screen or Harness or Console. I found it a bit odd that it caused an SC on immediate boot up. So I unplugged the Hard Drive and Bingo. Machine Booted. Or course a loaded machine will now pop like 5 SC.

              1 for HD
              1 for Fax Address Book
              1 For Scanner
              1 for Finisher
              1 for Document Server

But the machine can basic copy and Print.
Replaced Hard Drive. FORMAT IT per Service Manual instructions or the screen will remain washed out. Reboot, Download Stamp Data, Reboot. tada

Thank you for all your info. I checked the serial number on the list of the copiers with the old style of touch panels and this machine is not in the range. On the SC log I have many 991. But it does not correspond to the time that the scanning locks up. SC991 -Software program error, internal parameter incorrect, insufficient working memory. What I have done so far.....updated firmware, added memory, Ricoh support suggested that I replace the controller board, so I did. I think the hard drive might be the next thing. I will keep you posted.

Just a long shot, but maybe the hdd is flaky. Replaced quite a few lately due to power issues (off/on) and the scanner does use it for storing the images. You could try formatting it (backup the address book first) and see if it helps.

OK it's been a week since I replaced the controller board and added memory. I talked to the customer and it hasn't locked up any more. Fixed
