I am hooking up a Ricoh 1035 through a satellite internet modem. The machine pings fine with the computer, but wont print. The modem is a linkysis wrt 16. Vista software and the new ricoh universal print driver were the ones used. Computer recognized print drivers, and named the copier etc just like a normal set up, but wont print after a few dozen tries as reinstall, change ip address, reset modem, computer, turned everything off and on after 5 minute wait, all the usual things to do? Do satellite modems upload so slow that the copier is timing out before the data reaches it? Again thanks in advance for all your help!

You had me confused when you said a satellite modem. The linksys is actually a wireless router.
First thing is to double check all of the interface settings (subnet, gateway, make sure you aren't using a duplicate IP address).
Can you access the Web Interface through your browser? Do you have a pc or laptop available that you can connect directly to the device and try and print to it? I don't much like the Universal drivers and would suggest using a PCL type, but I don't think the driver is the issue.
When you send a print job, check and see if the data light on the mfp comes on, even momentarily.
There are many different things that could be the problem so keep checking here for more help that will be forthcoming. -
They are getting their internet access through satellite, like direct tv. Yes web access is available, and no the print lite does not even flicker when you send something. I did not try hooking the copier up to my laptop to see if it would print from that, but that is on the list of next things to do. I have to install a fax card in it today, so will try to print directly instead of through the router.Comment

If you unplug the copier from the router you get no ping. Tried to go in with laptop and laptop fried, so will have to go back again. Fax works fine after installing fax board etc. Changed out universal driver with regular pcl 6 driver and no change, erased and shut down everything and started over with new install, and with same results. could a bad hard drive cause this?Comment

Do you mean access the copier by putting the copier ip address into the browser like: http//:www.192.168.001.105? And what is supposed to come up on the web browser? Also, I went into the scan features and it shows the server ip address is 192.168.001.101, should I change that ip address to the same as the print? I thought you had to have different ip address for print and scan? ThanksComment

You should get a web page with the model number of the machine and a few other options such as "configuration" or somesuch.
Personally I'd forget about the scanning for now and get the printing working but, as you've brought it up, these machines only have one IP address, namely that of the sole network card in the machine. You need to install Scanrouter v2 Lite on a PC/server to scan and the IP address of that machine goes into the "delivery option" section under "file transfer" in system settings.
Anyway, what do you get when you put the IP into a web browser?Comment

Nop. input your MFP IP address as Ex:in your web browser http://192.168.0.105 this must take you to your MFP web page called "WIM" web image monitor. The sever IP address that you see in the scan setup is the IP address of the computer where someone installed the ScanRouter software and has nothing to do with your printer IP, so check that first.
Ex: 192.168.0.105 subnet mask must be 255.255.255.0 and that gateway must be your wireless routers IP, Ex: 192.168.0.1sigpicWe can all Win, but at the end we all loose. Save the greyhoundComment

Sure, if you have no need to send or receive any data whatsoever outside of the local subnet, but if you setup scan to email you need to get to the SMTP server, so you must have a complete IP setup.
Question: Are you printing to SMB or directly to a static IP. i.e. when you setup the driver is it to \\RNP35432\MPC2050 or do you create a port to 192.168.1.100. I'm trying to figure out if this is a connectivity problem or a name resolution problem.
Satellite works similar to any other WAN router, except that there are huge propagation delays sending a signal to a satellite orbiting 23,500 miles away and back. On the order of 700ms to send out a packet and get a response.73 DE W5SSJComment

Is the ISP Hughes net? If so, is the modem a DW6000? 7000?
The satellite latency is high but it shouldn't time out and IPP should work through the modem.
The question is how is your port setup? Assuming from your post that you have a computer in one location trying to print to the Ricoh in another location, via the internet, provided by satellite in the Ricoh location and cable? DSL? dial up? in the other location. A standard TCP/IP port will not work for this setup, you need an IPP port. They say satellite will support a VPN, but I have never seen it actually be able to work, but if you are getting a ping reply try setting up the ipp port. Click add printer > network printer > in the url field type "http://copier_ip_address/ipp". Add the driver when prompted. Setup the router to forward port 631 (IPP) to the copier's ip.
If any of that doesn't work you can try adding the copier to a local PC, share it out and do this setup.
If that doesn't work it might just be due to the VPN. There may be a way to not use VPN and use the modem's public ip address with port 631 forwarded to the copier. Hope one of these configurations work for you!Comment

Lakeman, you need to clear a few things up. Is the copier physically at another location and you're trying to print to it through a vpn connection over the internet or is it local and on the same subnet? If it's local, forget all about the satellite modem and focus on your connection between the pc, router and copier.
Your first step should be to hook your laptop up directly to the copier and attempt to print and if successful work backwards from there. I'm not sure how their contract is setup but generally if you can print from your laptop any more diagnosing is considered network services at an additional cost (unless this is a new setup, which I doubt with this being a 1035).
When you connect your laptop with a crossover (or regular patch if you have auto switching built in), set your IP to something close to the copiers (ex. copier is 192.168.1.100, make you laptop 192.168.1.101). If you still can't ping it or see the WIM, then focus on the NIC.Comment

Thank you all for trying to help, but nothing suggested worked. Went and hard wired copier to computer directly and shared it thru the network.
If anyone has actually set up a copier with print/scan using satellite internet, I would like to know the brand and model of the copier. The 1035 Ricoh is not able to be used if you have satellite internet.Comment
