Check the scanner pulley set screws to make sure they are not broken or backed out.
Don't take that toner with me!

The MCU board would fail on the earlier units. Sometimes it would slam the scanner into its stops and shatter the #1 mirror. Sometimes you got "fun house mirror" copies, and SC124.

I'd start with the board, and make sure you update the scanner pulley screws too - believe me, you don't want to replace that drive shaft if the screws shear off in there. If you can do it without unspooling the cables off the drive pulleys its a solid hour to hour and a half. If the cables come off its more like 3 if your lucky.

yeap! done a few of these by myself. Of course everyone else in the shop says that it cannot be done without help, but.... ohhhh who am I to judge! It does help though!!!

If the screw has not backed out completely, then you can remove it and apply Loctite to it. Retighten tighten it and you are good to go. If it has come out far enough to break the screw off... well, find a buddy my friend!!

The first law states that energy is conserved: The change in the internal energy is equal to the amount added by heating minus the amount lost by doing work on the environment.

I've done that before, and I've pulled screws out that are bent and about to shear, so its best to replace it with the hardened screws in the bulletin although I've seen them shear off as well if not tightened and locktited properly. They last longer either way. Poor design with just the screws to secure that much drive load - they should have used a D shaft or splines.

If you ever do have to replace one its much easier with a second pair of hands, but I've done several by myself - the secret is to lightly clamp a small set of vicegrips over the scanner pulleys and release tension on the cables to keep them from unspooling. If the cables come off its a MAJOR disassembly job to get enough room to restring them.

Hopefully that's not your problem - you probably would have seen the scanner cocked at an odd angle and SC101 and/or SC124 if one of the screws sheared, but definately check this to prevent the problem.

I had to replace both the scan motor and the driver board in a couple of those. There is a filter around that area that gets PLUGGED up with dust over time and not only affects that motor, but also , the HDD is mounted up there and can fail due to the heat.

Make sure every call you take out and vac out that filter.
