    mpc5000 duplex jams

    Hi .

I have a MPC5000 no more than 4 months old causing me a little pain. It has intermittent jams on the entrance to the duplex. Jam code. 7504-67. Replaced sns and still jams. Has got latest firmware and runs single side all okay. Next big step is IO PCB but don't want to head that way if possible.

    Have you any idea ?????

Check the gates - never seen this on an MPC, but the B/W machines were famous for the duplex gate sticking on the tiny rubber pads used to keep things quiet and that part is a similar design.

Rummaging around in the back of my mind, I have had a problem with a part snapped off at the top of the duplex unit. It's a flag which actuates a photointerruptor I think, somewhere at the rear of the duplex along its entrance area.

Sorry if this is a bit vague - if I go to one tomorrow I'll have a look and let you know!

It may have been D0094577 - duplex gate.

This is going purely from the parts manual though, so there's no guarantees!

SUBJECT: DUPLEX JAM OR Z-FOLD JAM

          SYMPTOM:

          CAUSE:

The motor torque of duplex bypass motors from a specific lot was higher than the specification maximum.
This increased the level of vibration during motor rotation, which led to resonance when the vibration reached a certain frequency. Eventually, this caused the motor to disengage and rotate in idle.

          SOLUTION:

The following changes were made from June 2009 production of D029 mainframes:
          1. Wheels were added to the motor pulley to minimize resonance as provisional countermeasure.
          2. An extra check was added to further ensure that the motor torque does not exceed the specification maximum and change to the new parts number as permanent countermeasure.

          Note:
The motor after above additional check does not contain additional wheel in line 1.

          Action requirement in the field

Replace the duplex bypass motor with the following new part: P/N B223 2745.

          IMPORTANT:

            Thank you every body.
Proplem was caused by guide plate being bowed due to heat from the fuser. Part has been mod by Ricoh.
Replaced tested all is now well.
Sakura.... thank you, my machine was after the manufacture mod. good bit of info

Nice to see a response on the final resolution. I wish more folks would do this. This gives everyone on idea on what kind of things fix problems that they might not have encountered before as opposed to never hearing a final resolution and wondering, "Hey whatever fixed that other person's problem"
