    Ricoh mp 4000 sc 304

I have a problem on a copier Ricoh MP 4000. A code SC
304 appears regularly. Someone had the same
issue. Thank you for your responses.

Check your charge roller. The machine tried to correct the charge roller voltage but the maximum of 2000V is applied. Try replacing the charge roller.

I already changed the charge roller. Sometimes the charge goes up to 2500 V.

The service manual also mentions a defective or a dirty id-sensor. Maybe a poor drum ground contact.

BTW, do a search on SC304.

I've always had a heavily crapped up mag roller cause this problem. Give the mag roller a clean off, replace the developer, make sure you vac out the PCU before initialising the new dev. That should sort your problem.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

Have you changed the drum recently? I had one where another tech put an A2309510 instead of the D0099510 that is supposed to be used. They were throwing a SC304 every 3-5 days until I put the correct drum in 2 months ago, now the machine runs fine.

WHAT IS IT: Charge roller bias correction leak

Definition: The charge roller bias correction is performed twice even if the maximum charge roller bias (-2000V) is applied to the roller.

              POSSIBLE CAUSE:
              ID sensor defective
              Worn charge roller
              Charge roller damaged

              Good Luck!

I have seen this error caused by poor grounding or electrical connections. To check if its this you can check the gray patch density visually. If its too dark that will cause the bias to raise to the maximum. Make sure all the various connections are good and clean in the PCU.
Ricoh & Microsoft may pay the bills but Un*x saves my ass every day.
