    Gestetner 7502 Printing

First off, I hope all of you are having a great holiday season! =D

My problem... should be an easy one but for some reason this machine is giving me a huge headache.

Our in house computer tech has a lack of knowledge when it comes to office equipment and I've held a couple technical positions in the past so this task has fallen into my lap lol

So from the start, I've connected the 7502 to the network and even got the scanning feature to work.

Well to test it out I was just going off of my workstation and adding the printer using TCP/IP port and using different drivers.

I've tried PS, PCL5e, and PCL6 different dates on each driver.

When I try to print a test page, I see the job queue up and then goes away just like any other print job but nothing prints.

I've tried disabling other printing protocols and messing with other settings but nothing... same thing.

    Any ideas?

There could be several reasons for this. Are the drivers loaded on your workstation or on the Server? If on your workstation, I would load a driver on the server and attempt to print from there (if you're scanning to the server you know you have a connection there). Double check the interface settings (IP, Gateway, Subnet) on the device. Can you access the Web Image Monitor from your browser? Ping ok? If so, disconnect the device for the network and re ping to make sure you don't have a duplicate address. Do you have user codes enabled on the device? If you do and the printer function is enabled for user codes, jobs will disappear if a code isn't inserted in the driver. Other posters will give you more suggestions, keep checking back here.

Are User Codes set up on the machine or some other kind of authentication? If so, if the machine isn't getting that authentication info with the job, it's just deleting it. Try switching off all authentication and try again. Also, see if the job is being sent as a "Normal Job" in the printer properties tab, not a "Hold" or "Locked" job. That will make the machine just store the print job in it's memory and not print it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

        Thanks for the feedback! =D

I actually have no access to the buildings server but I did get scanning to my workstation to work. I can access the web monitor system and I already double checked the IP for duplicates and test pings.

I don't see any sort of user authentication unless you're talking about the IPP section on the copier's web config.

I really hope this isn't a problem but the site is using Novell. Could that be catching print jobs that aren't done through it's own protocol? Also, how do I check what kind of print job is being sent?

OH! I just caught something and maybe you were right about user access...

          19?Access Restricted09/12/29 14:100
          18?Access Restricted09/12/29 14:010

That just repeats in one of the logs. But I can't find anything that is restricting user or printer access.

              You are awesome!

              I found it under

User Tools -> System Settings -> Key Operator Tools Tab (Page 1) -> User Code Management -> Printer set to off

I was trying to look on the web monitor, I had found a section for user access but apparently that wasn't it.

Thanks again everyone! Have a Happy New Year =D

Glad that worked for ya, not sure How I forgot System Settings or Damn Key Operator Tools. So many of my customers I've setup with User codes.

lol It's all good but now I'm having a weird issue with stapling. I can staple copies from the machine but when I print I don't think the driver can see the finisher.

Been a LOOONG time since I used the PCL5 drivers. Do they have a tab that list accessories? You have the open to staple in the drivers?

Go into the Driver Via your Control Panel and see if there is any option for checking which Accessories are installed. Will have to check Finisher and Stapler.

Oh boo Now I remember what you're talking about. I actually don't have the CD, I just installed the drivers using Windows Printer Setup wizard...

*EDIT* I got it... I kept on going into printing preferences instead of printer properties... Now to just figure out if we have the 3000M or B.

Thanks again for the help! =D

When you bring up the driver accessories page, the picture will change when you select some accessories - the image is actually quite accurate. Toggle back and forth between the two finishers, and see which one it looks like. If you can print a printer configuration page from User Tools > Printer Features, it should list the finisher that you have.

If I'm not mistaken, the biggest difference between them is that one can staple up to 50 sheets, the other can staple 100. I can't think of any other differences.

If you have a tray on the finisher that is on a slant just above the floor, that means that you have a booklet maker, and must check that option.

If you have a hole punch (which does not show in the picture) you will need to check that, also. The easiest way to determine that is to see if you have hole punch available on the control panel in copy mode.
