I believe that one still needs a server running plotbase.

Does it specifically have to be a Ricoh or will any pc work?

Must not be a ricoh PC but it MUST be a pc with no shared graphic memory (means, you must not have grafics onbord, instead you have to use a seperate grafic card), you have to insert a pci interfalce pcb and install Plotbase. I would recommend an older PC, maybe an Athlon 1800 or the like, 1 gig memory, 40 gb HD and WIN 2K installed. In addition, your 480w needs an interface card too, and a special cable to connect with the pc.

I agree about the Plotbase server. It can be any PC with the specific Ratio interface card and the Plotbase software (so log as Plotbases' requirements are met - Win2K or XP Pro only, 1G min memory etc.). Be aware you aren't likely to get the interface or software anywhere but Ricoh, the software is specific to model and I could be wrong, but my understanding is the interface is not 'generic' either. The cable is like a small format SCSI cable, but it may also be proprietary too.
