when i listen to the line on the monitor i only get this sqweeling noise, changing the fax board fixes the problem but does anyone know how to fix the problem on the board, they are to expensive to keep replacing.

Does this problem keep happening, or is this a first? Have you done all of the appropriate clear functions in service mode? Is ALL firmware up to date?

If it keeps happening, obviously something else is causing it, and needs to be investigated.

As far as repairing boards in the field, you can pretty much forget it. Even if you could identify the bad component(s), procuring it (them) would be nearly if not impossible, and soldering it in place yourself would most likely destroy the part. Keep in mind that these are done by special equipment at the factory, or by the repair services that specialize in repairing these boards.

Unless there is ovious damage to the board (blown chip, cold solder joint, etc.) then not without a schematic, an O-scope, and possibly a logic ananlyzer as well.
Don't take that toner with me!
