    MPC6000 fades diagonally

Attached is a black skyshot from an MPC6000. Its gotta be the dev tank cause we swapped it out with a showroom dev tank and it worked fine for about 3 months. It came back today so I replaced the dev which got rid of the diagonal deletion lines but is still very slightly faded at the bottom of the page - not noticeable for the customer tho....

Im sure its gonna come back sometime but I just cannot understand what would make the diagonal lines - I can only think of the auger behind the mag roller spreading the dev too thin at the end. Is this waht it looks like when the dev starts running out?

But if this was the case, is it too much of a coincidence to happen to 2 dev tanks within 3 months? Sorry I cant remember the life of the dev I replaced.

Thanks heaps for the help - you guys have been awesome in helping me understand these machines!

I know this is very basic stuff, but I have to ask: Is the machine level?

Ha - I dont care whether its basic or not, I'm open to anything! But yes.....the machine is level.

I really dont have much experiance on these machines, I was wondering if there is a clutch or something to drive the dev that could make this pattern? Something other than in the dev tank itself?

That looks like lack of toner in the dev. Replacing developer would be a temp fix. Another tech here posted a while back about removing a oneway bearing off the dev unit and I think that is the fix

Looks like an interesting issue there. Have you tried doing isolation test on the colors. I will try that to see if this is related to open of the color units or all of them. Try using sp2109-2 and select the 100% coverage. Then by using sp2109-4 specify which color to use; example you will have 00001111 as default; if I want to print only yellow you will use the keypad to turn of the 1. The keypad number to use here will be 0 thru 3 representing the bits for this settings. If I want only yellow it will be 00000001 by pressing the other digits leaving bit 0 which is yellow on. After this is done you need to go into the copy window inside the sp and select color mode and press start. This will print out a paper with full coverage; I will try the 8 1/2 x 11 first but legal or 11x17 is best to see any imperfections. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas - and the link. I was called back today for fading down the bottom of the page so I cleaned the charge corona. While there tho I carried out Turbojetboys mod - will be interesting to see how it goes, and I'll let you know the results.

I have seen that exact same problem on 3 different machines. Changing the dv fixed the problem but only temporarily and it returned. Changed the dv unit out on each one and was a permanet fix. Got to love this model!

This may be off the wall but I find it hard to make a sky shot on newer machines. They pick up the flourecent lighting. I like to find a full laser power test print to see solid black copies.
