MP 171 --Needing settings for turning on fax forwarding

I have a customer with a MP 171. The machine has 8k so its pretty much new. They have been having faxes forwarded to an email and they print out as well when received. Night before last, they did some phone line moving/arranging. Now, the machine wont print out faxes. I can send test faxes to the machine, the communication button lights and it says my company name, but it never prints out or forwards to the email. I get a good dial tone when on hook from the machine. After being there for an hour and a half this morning going through settings, the customer said they would have the "phone guy" check the phone lines out and they would call me back if it checked out ok. I chalked it up to them moving lines around or having a bad line. Well, they called back saying the line is fine.

In the morning I am going to get a fax that we use to troubleshoot at the shop along with some fresh phone cable. If it transmits/receives fine then I know it is something with the machine obviously. I want to make sure all of the settings and parameters are right. Does anyone know these? Or just a parameter list? I couldn't find anything in the service manual about this.

Thanks for all of the help!!!

Just print the parameter settings. And if you don't know how just read the operator's manual on how to set the parameters.

You should check their network connection as well, and don't forget to look at the network setup on the copier as well. Who knows? If they moved phone lines around they might have made changes to their network and that could stop the machine from sending emails out.

I dont know a hell of a lot about faxing - but have they turned on or off faxibility on the line? If so you will have to set the machine up for it either way - just an idea.

I will do that, I just assumed that their network connection was fine since they print to the machine without any problems. Their IT guy was the one moving all of the lines around.

Thanks for all of the replies and if anyone else has any ideas, let me know. I'm taking another fax machine to the location this morning and I will let you guys know what I find.

UPDATE: I went to the account with a fax from our office and they already had an old junker fax in and it was transmitting and receiving fine. I switched the phone line back to the 171 and this time the communication light wouldn't light up at all. I ordered the fax board and the smaller board that "piggy backs" it, installed into the machine and it works fine. Something happened to the board while the customer was in the process of whatever it is they were doing to the phone lines. The important thing is it is FIXED. Thanks again for all of the replies. Have a great weekend!

                  Glad it's fixed!

Maybe when working with the lines he crimped on a new RJ11 at the other end.

That would introduce a dead short, even though for only a few seconds, enough to toast the fax board.
