Staple issue w Ricoh 1107ex and BK5010e booket maker

I recently replaced my aging Ricoh 2105 with a brand spanking new Pro 1107ex and overall, I've been extremely pleased at its performance. I've put over 250,000 copies on it in the first week and it ran like a gem! I also aquired a new booklet maker in the process which has also worked great for me so far.

However, I came across an issue today that has got me scratching my head. Let me preface this by saying I have calls into my Ricoh technical support already, but I figured I'd check in here to see if anyone else has come across this problem.

With my booklet maker offline, I can manually feed sheets as large as 12.5x18" and it has no problem. Conversely, I can also print that size on the 1107 without a problem. Where the problem comes is when I connect the booklet maker inline with the 1107 and try to run it all straight through. It tells me "Cannot staple paper this size". I have 1,000 books I need to run that the machine says it can't staple.

There must be a setting in the service mode that will change this somehow, as there's no reason why it "can't staple". I've tried various other sizes, and as long as it's a "custom size" it says it can't staple it.

Oh, by the way... it also does the same thing when I connect the booklet maker to my C900.

Any ideas or experience with this? Thanks in advance!

The BK5010e product support guide says the largest online (connected to the copier) size you can do is 12x18. It says you can manually do up to 12.6x18. It also says custom sizes are only available offline.

Have you tried just setting the tray to a pre-programmed 12x18 ?

Take this for what it is worth as it is mostly opinion, but I think a much better job could have been done to improve the communivation between the copier and the GBC accesories.

That being said, can you take the BK5010 off of auto on the paper size select and choose a custom size manually?

I really don't remember what all the options are on the paper size settings.

Here's the deal, the "custom" sizes of the booklets I'm trying to run through are 11x17.5 (so I can use the online trim to give an exact 8.5x11 booklet) and 11x11.5.

I've tried setting the paper size to "Auto" as well as setting it manually to the specific size, but any way I slice it, it tells me that it "Cannot staple paper this size". I could understand if there was some glitch with the 11x17.5" that the 17.5" dimension was being input as the width of the paper and not the length, and that's why that one wouldn't work, but with the 11x11.5", that should work any way you send it!

It's a completely a communication issue between the copier and the booklet maker, as on their own, they are fully capable of handling what I want to do. Just when I tell them to work together, it seems they haven't learned that basic skill we learn as children!!

On another note, I've already scanned my way through the entire SP mode screen to see if there's anything obvious that would related to this and no luck as of yet!
