    MPC 2500 - B&W and Color

BW and Color PCUs are the same except their connectors? I ask because we bought some BW units and changed their connectors and works fine. But we are not sure if it will last... Maybe some important diference or we can do this? The main reason to do this? BW PCU are very cheap.

    Thanks for helping.

Yes, they are the same. You do not need to replace the connector on the back of the PCU, but take a file and file off the edge of the plug to match the bevel on the color PCU (it wil be the edge where the roll pin is embedded in the plug). Make sure you file enough away so you do not damage the plug in the rear of the copier when you reinsert the PCU.

It will last! You save yourself a lot of money by replacing Black PCU's only!

Use a file is a good idea but be EXTREMELY careful if you are going to do it. Otherwise you are going to have a heck of a problem that will cost you close to $1000 to replace a connectors plate (it is not separate to diff colors) so you will have to spend a lot of time and money if you busted even only 1 connector. So think first!

Forget the file. Use sharp dikes. Get a good 45 degree bite on the edge of the connector with the pin in it (cutting jaws parallel to pin), and you can snip right down to it, then just pop it out with the tip of the jaws and you're done. 5-10 seconds on site, never broken a connector

+1 for the dykes - been doing this since we discovered they were the same PCU. When they started adding the pin I figured I'd give it a try - actually made it even easier to get good cut IMHO.

Ricoh has been giving my manager grief wondering why a lot of our machines have calls closed with multiple K PCU units listed in parts. I think somebody in corporate shit a gold brick when he told them how few units made it to yield and the price difference for a tad bit of extra plastic on a connector. Now we have to call the help desk every machine where the color PCU doesn't make it to yield - Ricoh is trying to document the failure for the engineers... be a lot easier to kick the little snots out in the field and make them work on their own product - that would fix a lot more than just a bad PCU design.

this works great we have been doin it for awhile now. only thing is that the newest color machines that came out they actually changed the pin out on the plug, so u have to cut and flip two of the wires also,

I agree... That best practices memorandum we got a while back is for the birds.

I had one today where the Y PCU didn't make it to yield, and the K PCU was past yield. Called it in, and I was still on the phone with the help desk even after I finished changing the K PCU and cleaning the Y charge roller and cleaning station.
