    SMB scanning browse network

I am not asking about a particular machine just SMB scanning in general.

What do I need to enter / need to be able to browse the network via the mfp ? I put the same info in them all and sometimes I can browse and sometimes I can't.

    Does anyone know why ?

I'd be willing to bet (it's what I did) was fat finger one of the buttons.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Should only need a network path and proper credentials (username/password). Firewalls, and A/V programs can block network access also.

Here is a Ricoh scan to folder white paper. They all work the same just different ways to set them up.
        Attached Files
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Good call on the whitepaper, Nmfaxman, there's some good info there!

Below is one critical quote from the whitepaper:

          "5.1.1 SMB Workgroup Name
The SMB Workgroup name must match at least one of the workgroups on the network in order to browse the network for a shared folder. To view/edit the SMB workgroup, follow this path from the operation panel: System Settings > Interface Settings > Page 2 > SMB Computer Name > SMB Workgroup".

DNS also plays a major part, as it must be right as well. I do know that if you change the IP address or hostname of the MFP, it may take some time for DNS to "catch up" to reflect the change. That can happen easily when you first plug the machine in and get an address via DHCP, then go back and manually change it.

That's where DDNS (Dynamic DNS) comes in. It should report the changes back to the DNS server immediately, rather than waiting for one or more of Windows infinite number of "internal timers".

Very Rarely do I have a network I cannot browse once I have the proper IP Range, Subnet, gateway, DNS, Available Workgroup name, and even domain. Usually networks I cannot browse are usually domain based networks.

its called discovery. it must be turned on- on the network for you to browse the network on these kind of devices.

Other PC's can browse and Discover Each other, just not the MFP. Now this may be some MAC Address limitation on some of these networks.

I don't know what operating systems you are working with but I have never been able to browse a windows 7 computer. Or Server 2008. Usually don't have any problems with any others.

On windows 7 I have always had to enter the correct path.
