Fax and Scan Functions not Recognised

I've had this happen recently on two different models: an AF2018 and an MP4000. Machines are at different accounts and different cities but in both instances the fax and scan functions do not appear to exist when attempting to access them. User Tools shows no features for them and no SCs are on the op panel. The 2018 did have one code on the SMC, an 820 with a detail of a fax handler error. The 4000 seemed clean in the SMC. Despite the lack of these functions, both machines print perfectly fine. Incoming faxes get no answer from the machines.

I tried reloading all firmware, new phone and network cables and it has returned at times on each machine. Any ideas?

I had this happen on a MPC6000 same problem called tech support said to reflash latest firmware, reseat all connectors and memory modules and if that didnt work last thing to replace was the controller board. That finally resolved that problem. I would suggest also to re flash latest firmware and reseat all connectors on the controller and all memory modules then if that fails think about controller but I had not tried and NVRAM and engine mem clear.
    good luck.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Could also be a memory problem. I saw this on an AF2022. No Scan/Print function. Turned out to be a defective memory module.

For fax, make sure the battery board is jumpered to ON and is pushed into the FCU fully.
For the scan make sure SP5985 is ON for the NIC

I had same problems on a MP161spf, and the display said something like "licences for sd card",
i changed controller etc etc no result... it was faulty memory as well...
In my opinion, when assembling the machine, you have to be properly grounded with earth thrue a special wristband !
More and more these kind of problems accur.
So, change the memory-dimm.( and be grounded properly)
