Our customer with this machine is printing on a glossy paper. They are duplexing as well and are getting misfeeds. When it misfeeds it ripping the paper in the middle. It is being ripped by a feed tire. However the paper only makes it as far as the registration roller and stops at it. This only happens with the glossy paper it does not occur when printing on regular bond paper. Has anyone seen any problems as such with this machine and do you have any suggestions on how to fix it? Any help appreciated, thank you.

That's a bit of an odd one. Is the customer feeding from the trays or bypass? Has the machine been set to glossy media, thick stock etc? New feed tyres? Clutches? All things to have a shufty at.It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Sounds like a typical "FFR" problem. Is the paper being torn the width of the sep roller and folded back about 3mm? The feed relies on the difference in friction between roller / paper and paper / paper and is primarily set up for plain paper. You are getting too much friction between the two sheets of glossy paper which is causing the second sheet to be driven against the sep roller and folding the edge back. This will also cause the top ("Fed") sheet to be dragged back which will give timing problems and show as reg jams. I believe it's been suggested in the past that altering the sep pressure can help. You could change the length of pressure springs up or down and see if it helps. If you try this I suggest having several spare springs ready before you start so the settings can be set back to default if required. Also try a new torque limiterComment
