I'm not fond of that entire series of engine. I suppose they run OK if you have someone who is thorough with maintenance and uses OEM parts (and do use OEM toner). Issues with these, there have been a few. My personal gripe list:

Run dirty, don't push the PM interval, regular thorough PM's are a must. No skimping on parts!

Seem to record more jams than other engines, helps to replace clutches and rollers regularly

Fuser cold roller builds up quickly and can even get a paper wrapped around it. They are aluminum and not as easy to clean as the steel ones used in other models.

The toner hoppers often leak and the 'paddles' inside come off

Cushions in interchange unit go gooey and have to be removed, a PITA

Did I mention they run dirty?

Anyhow, good luck. This is one engine I wish Ricoh had have realized was a turd after the abysmal Aficio 350/450. It did improve and the Aficio 2035/2045 and 3035/3045 are likely the pinnacle of it's evolution. The MP3500/MP4500 used a 'new' toner and were a step, nay, giant leap backwards IMHO.

I think Zed has pretty much hit it right on the head.

One thing I'll add - change the toner seals on the dev unit and PCU every pm (I do them every dev / drum change) - give it a bloody good vac out too. It'll thank you for it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

As you'll be getting these as second hand machines if you're looking to buy them, if they have been properly serviced they can be fairly reliable. They do run very dirty though as everyone has said and do need quite a bit of work to keep clean and properly running but they can be a good machine if all you want is a copier. You're better off trying to get the 3035/3045 model among the older models as they are much more reliable in terms of fusing and copy quality. The MFP functions on the 2035 are fairly limited, especially scanning, so a later version machine is always a better choice if you need these functions.

Joel Joel, this is not a sales department and in this forum there is nothing better than a Ricoh, so just bye it or leave it... or try a Gestener, Savin, Nashuatec, Rex Rotary, or a Lanier, hehehe

I service these models for some years now, My advise : do NOT buy these machines used.......I would suggest you look for aficio 1022 / 1027 / 1032 or the newer model 2022 / 2027 / 2032
the 2032 model is the fastest ...32 sheets a minute These are very userfriendly and supplies are not to expensive... difference 1032 and 2032 series is the newer series can do scan to mail the older series does not.
