    Ricoh 240w support?

    Hi all

I have a client who wants an A0 copier with print and scan functions.

I have found a dealer who has one in fully operational order.

It comes to my attention that it requires its own print controller pc to perform the scan and print functions using Plotbase and scantool?

First of all is this correct?. . . . and if so is Plotbase and Scantools stil supported as I wouldnt know where to start with these programs?

Also can you print PDF documents to it and scan a document to PDF format?

    Thanks all!

In answer to your first question...Yes. The 240W's print controller is external and has to reside in a PC. The OS has to be a windows 32bit system as well.

Plotbase and Scantools may not be directly supported through Ratio. There have been some recent changes this year so I am unclear on the details. The dealer or direct organization you purchase it from should have channels to be able to provide support if a problem arises.

You can print PDF documents to the machine. I am not sure if you can save the scanned document in Scantools in a PDF format.

With the VERY limited support for the software, I think I'd steer clear of the W240.

The W240's replacements, the W2400 and W3600 (24" and 36"), have available GW (internal) controllers, which are totally supported, and don't require an external PC.(Those options are just SD cards which plug into the plotter.) While either will cost more than the 240, I'm sure you'd find that they're worth the difference.

FYI... I just did a W3600 install a few weeks ago. I was told by Ricoh at that time that they stopped selling the Plotbase software this past March.

BTW... Scanbase will scan to pdf, along with a number of other formats.

Make absolutely certain that you never lose the license file. If you ever need to reinstall you'll need it then. The original license file should have come on a floppy disk.

If the original license file isn't available, you will need to contact Ricoh, and provide them with the serial number of the interface card (in the PC) and a scanned copy of the "TAN" certificate for each product. Once they have that info, they will email you the license file. If the TAN certificate(s) are lost, you are out of luck.

Aggree with Ken B. The newer Wide Formats with the GW are much better. I did a network install on one last week and it was up and running in no time. Will scan to folder and email.
