When's the last time it had a black dev unit? It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Sounds like it's not adding any toner, just using up what came in the dev unit. Probably a plugged hose or toner pump above the dev unit went south.Comment

Hang on - just re-read your original post. Are you using non-oem toner in this? It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

According to the service manual the new developer unit you put in might be faulty. Try another if you have one. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

The pump noise you're hearing is the one situated below the toner cartridges, not the attraction pump above the dev units. There are clutches on the attraction pumps that can fail, you may be pushing toner into the tube but the attraction pump is not sucking it down to the dev unit.
As TonerMunkeh suggested, replace the dev unit first. If the problem persists then replace the attraction pump (clean out the hose while you're at it).Comment
