Ricoh MP 2000 SMB Scan to Folder

I am having problems with a Ricoh MP 2000 SMB Scan to Folder machine. I have shared folders set up on an XP Pro Machine, with permissions given to everyone for full control. I can access the administration login for this printer to set up the address book for paths that are pointing to this computer by \\computername\shareddocs\folder_name which at this point are set up already.

This is the error message i get when trying to scan: "sending failed check settings and check scan file status"

This was working until something happened to this computer which wiped out some system files.

I created all new shared files, but it is still not working.

The computer's log in credentials have probably changed so it must be changed in the address book for that destination as well.

Agree if there was a reinstall of windows, the username or password has probably changed. If it was a hack job repair then the network files for the OS could be flaky.

There was no reinstall of windows. I am guessing the network files for the OS are flaky... any way to repair/fix this?

Usually not without a new install. You can try making a new windows account. It could be just the account that is corrupted.

Did you check that the user account you are using for copy machine to access the shared folder have proper File Permission?

Simply granting full control -> everyone in Share Permission is not enough as NTFS file system uses a more advanced permission control scheme, and a user needs to have these File Permissions granted to access the folder, otherwise he might see the share but not able to write to it.

You can check this by right-click on the shared folder and go to Security, make sure the user account you use for scanner have at least Modify or Full Control permission for that folder.

I usually prefer to create a new user account named "scanner" and grant that account full control permission to the share folder just for the copy machine to use, this is useful as your scan delivery setup won't be interrupted if the user decided to change his password without notifying you.

            Hope this helps, Good luck!

Yeah this may be a possibility but MOST, not all people just use Simple File Sharing and I've never seen NTFS and Security settings being an issue there. Maybe now in 7 or Vista, but rarely in XP. Too many small businesses are lazy and don't implement security permissions.

Wow, this actually worked. I created the scanner account, and then added the permissions to that account for full control.

                Thank you SOOO much!

Oh, I also had to add the user account "scanner" and password in the printer settings under folder authentication for each of the paths created.

Yep that'll fix it. Odd they weren't using Simple File Sharing, but no matter, glad it is fixed.
