Ricoh 1018d black copies excessive toner use

Right then , snowy copies , (lots of black speckles) replaced the drum , and developer and wiper blade,

Now the copier churns out black copies, meaning the copy will be completely black and about one inch on one side the paper will have a rubbish bit of copy, and keeps asking for toner, sp for TD intialise was run

    whats been missed?

The only thing that can be is the charge roller not in contact with the drum, except at the one end. Are there bushings in the charge roller holders and both pressure springs are intact? One of the bushings or springs may have fell out when you performed the pm , keeping the charge roller from making full contact.
It's probably asking for toner since it was bled dry during initialization. You might as well start from scratch with new developer (once you correct the drum problem), also change out the transfer roller - that will give you black speckles once it's past its prime.

Dude, your going to have to do another dev change. This time remove the toner bottle before setting developer. Turn on transfer roller cleaning, too. Sometimes these boxes just wig out and run way overtoned, especially the ones with the fax option. They never get shut off to run a decent process control. I am going to agree with teebee on the possibility that you might have gotten something wrong in your reassembly. Just back up and repeat the process with attention to detail.
