Adding the postscript will speed it up but wont overcome the file size problem. I dont think there is a RAM upgrade for this model so all you can do is reduce the file size by reducing the resolution.

Sounds like a spooling issue to me, or memory, you shouldn't need a PS option to print PDF's. Has the computer finished spooling the entire print job, before it crashes?

maybe some font issue, check the box "print as picture" under enhanced ; makes it slower but helps in many pdf issues

In Pcl 6 Printing Preferences by default Graphics in Print Quality is set to Vector, change it to Raster.

please also check the printer driver version you're using, verify and download new version if not updated.

              Hi,

Install RPCS printer driver and change setting from "Printing preferences">"Printer configuration">"Job load distribution" to "Shift load distribution".
If you have a lot of troubles with printing you must change the setting for "Memory usage" from "Frame priority" to "Font priority".

Print the file as a image

Print the file as a image, PDF's do layering in the image.

Also try with all the driver languages supported by the machine: RPCS, PCL5 (my favourite) and PCL6.

They are probably getting the application to collate so it is sending 150 times the amount of data rather than collating on the driver - 150 pages to print versus 1 page, print it 150 times

I had a client who was printing engineering drawings from PDF files and the PCL6 would mess it up, PCL5 would render about half a page correctly and choke completely with both PCL taking forever to render anything, but RPCS was fast with perfect output. I had another where the client was having issues with label alignment and the only driver that worked properly was the Universal PCL6. Don't get hung up on one specific driver, try them all to see which one works best for the client's jobs.

Ricoh has been having huge driver related issues of late. Really disappointing to see and I constantly hear 'but my old *insert brand/model here* did it just fine...', which chaps my ass to no end. I heard a rumour that the driver development was farmed out to a third party and that this is the genesis of these crap issues with printing. Any thoughts?

I had a client that had a real speed issue when printing their PDF drawings, and it would take up to 10 mins to spool a couple of 11"x 17" pages. I updated firmware, tried different drivers, and even a postscript kit. Nothing helped, until I realized that Ethernet speed was set to 100Mbps. I set it to "Auto Select" and problem solved. Just an idea

That reminds me that the opposite (setting it to 100 or even 10Mbps) can help if the problem is caused by some bad network cables and connectors. I had a couple of customers where the machine was slow at auto-select and 100Mbps but worked fine at 10Mbps. Apparently there was a network cable with bad connectors, and since 10Mbps don't use all the connectors, there should've been one of the 100Mbps-only connectors that was bad.

One of the customers solved the problem, the other (with a 2045) said "Well, if it works fine, just leave it as it is" to this day.
