      To use sp5 -113
Sometimes if these steps are done out of order it can mess things up. If you need to; Go back to defaults and start again.
      1. If it has been turned on; Turn off key counter in user tools sys settings.
      2. Set sp5-113 to 11 ext keycard down. There may be an internal and external section I believe external should be chosen.
      3. Go to user tools sys settings external charge unit management and turn copier on.
      4. Connect to the 4 pin key counter connecter.

Normally you would just use key counter with the 4 pin connector and not sp5-113. The basic difference is when using key counter and the key counter is removed the copier will stop immediately and jam. When using Vend stations Ricoh created the sp5-113 option 11 so once a sheet is started it will let that copy cycle finish and stop.

Based on the KAL-D06 PDF it looks like the pins needed are the high speed count. Any improper connection here could have resulted in a copier board being blown. I don't know the exact KAL-D06 model or the exact pins you connected to give you a definite answer.

If you are using the 20 pin connector than all the above information is incorrect.

i see less than 1Volt between pins 3 & 4 and voltage increase at feed to about .1 volt ?
        very weird stuff

Your digital multimeter is much too slow to show the impulse, you would need an oscilloscope to see that visually

BTW.: did you enable the external counter in the user menu?

As herrmann mentioned most meters (especially the auto-ranging type) are too slow to react to see the full 24 VDC. You should see at least 7 VDC of the 24 VDC pulse at feed. I assume you are running this test without the KAL-D06 attached. If not than you should be. It sounds as if the copier may have a problem at this point. If these two wires were ever shorted together at paper feed it can damage the copier board. It is a real possibility depending on where they were connected to the KAL-D06.

As herrmann also mentioned; Some copiers will not output the voltage unless the sp5-113 option I mentioned previously is set or you turn on the keycounter option in the user menu. These two settings should not be used in tandem. Use one or the other.

Sorry, but i made exactly the converse experience. In the SP mode you set the type of device (count up or down etc. ), after that, you must tell the mashine in the user mode, that there is such a device present.
              So, they only work together.

                Re: Ricoh 2015,2018,2020

                Well to clarify
In user tools sys settings there are two settings. One simply turns on the key counter connector. No other setting needs to be changed. That setting can cause a jam if the counter is unplugged during paper feed. That is the setting that shouldn't be used in tandem with the SP5-113 setting. The second setting and the one I believe your thinking of is External Charge Unit Management. This setting is also in user tools. In the External Charge Unit Management menu is where you highlight the controlled functions like full color copies or prints. External Charge Unit management can only be selected when sp5-113 is set.
If you are using the type A interface (20 pin connector) than nothing is connected to the key counter. So if you used the key counter setting than the copier will always say "To use the following functions set key card".
These options and settings will be slightly different between color and B/W copiers and some older copier firmware going back to the 1020s.

                  Re: Ricoh 2015,2018,2020

got tried of tryin so many different things
that i just went real OLD SCHOOL on it and attached a KAL-DIN: Miniature, Low Cost, LCD, Self Powered, Electronic Counter KAL-DIN AC/DC
counter to the clutch motor works perfectly thanks to KEP but ricoh has got to shape up their game i tried everything before the old paper feed clutch trick
not happy that i had to resort to it and the problem was not my meter or scope

most likely the machine and its firmware
