    Scan To Email Ricoh 2851

I am trying to get a Ricoh 2851 to scan to email. I have had success with similar interfaces (i.e. Sharp, Kyocera) but for some reason this one is a PITA. I am setting this up remotely for a customer I support. SO, I'm going through the web interface. I've got all of my settings correct, as far as I know, and it says Processing.. Waiting.. and then nothing, no email received. Here is a list of what I've done:

    1. Added user in Address book
    2. Selected SMTP authentication, and input email and password (It works for other copiers)
    3. Added the users email address
    4. Under Configuration>Email>setup SMTP server settings (by Name and IPaddress separately, neither work), SMTP authentication (using same settings as above)
    5. Under Network>Ip4>setup DNS settings to point to DNS1 & DNS2 based on IPconfig cmd.

At the machine the user selects Scan>Scan to Email. Then the account shows up and she hits start and it scans but then says Processing.. and Waiting.. then nothing. Sorry for the long post but I think this is common problem and specifics matter.

Yeah, setting the machine up wrong is a common problem

Reserve the IP on the server and set the machine to DHCP. Go to:

User Tools / System Settings / File Transfer / SMTP Server - input server IP address there, click "connection test" when it's in.
In the Administrator email box put in a totally made up address, it doesn't need a valid one.
    Press Next.
Set Auto Specify Sender Name to Yes.
Go to the scanner button on the ops panel, select manual entry and send a test scan.

THat's about it for the actual server settings. Does your server actually use SMTP authentication? Is it an Exchange server?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

This isn't a server/client network. No Exchange server. It is setup through rackspace, which offers email service. The server is smtp.emailsrvr.com. I've settup plenty of these machines with no problem just running into a snag on this one. It also has not test feature, like a Sharp interface does. Good try, Next.

Little more info on the network setup..

Very small network, 1 router, 5 or less clients that print and connect to the Ricoh. The Ricoh is connected directly to the router so it's getting an IP address through the router DHCP. I've used the router ip/ default gateway for the DNS server before and it worked. I may try that next.

Ping smtp.emailsrvr.com, and put the resulting ip address in place of the name and skip the DNS.

I tried with the IP for the server instead of the name and that does work on other systems. However, I still left in the DNS settings, so I may try that as well. I'll be back at it tomorrow and willl post anything I find. Thanks for the reply.
