Be sure the MFDs firmware is up to date as there is a lot of bug fixes for SMB scanning to Windows 7 / 2008.

Does the network have a 2008 server because we have had this problem.
When scanning using SMB or E-mail and trying to reload the server by it's name it fails, even though DNS is correctly set up in the device.
      Solution
By default the security settings of the DNS on SBS 2008 are set as to not allow any "non-domain" computers to resolve DNS names.
The device will still do a connection test to the DNS server, but this is just a port scan.
Workaround: Clients IT can set the DNS to "Allow both Domain and Non-Domain computers access to the DNS". Or, set the device with the IP address of the server you are trying to scan to.
