Ricoh FT4618 - White streaks on copy

    Hi guys,

I have a Ricoh FT4618 photocopier that leaves white patches on the copies. I've attached a PDF file to show what I mean. (Ignore all the black areas - that was on the original as well). Often it's a lot worse than this. It kind of looks like maybe there's some dirt in the imaging unit preventing toner being deposited onto the drum at various spots, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone help me out with suggestions and advice about what could be causing this and how to rectify it? It would be greatly appreciated.

    All the best,

    Frank.

i think for this mcns we used to establish if the prob. was charge or transfer stop the mcn when image is on the drum if image is solid u have a prob. with your transfer blocks if not check the grounding of your drum,
    good luck

do the basics first i.e. optics, main charge and transfer charge but by the looks of it (lid up copy) the developer is shot.

Does the fault get worse on a run of 10 copies? Cheat the front door switch and take several copies, If the copy clears up it could be the ozone filter in the back cover blocked and preventing airflow over the charge wire. I also looks like the machine just needs a good service!

ditto on looks like it needs a good cleaning and PM time for the drum and developer units. be sure to clean the optics.

I had an old machine once that had some dust in the developer, which would brush the toner off the drum and cause white streaks. I assumed that this was a similar problem so I checked out the developer in this copier, but the developer looked clean. I moved it around a bit and for a short while the problem disappeared as a result, so perhaps the developer does need replacing. Is this hard to do?

I'll also check out the optics and try the ozone filter test as well. Thanks so much for your help guys!

I checked out the optics on the weekend and cleaned them, and I also tested the copier with the front cover open for 10 copies, but it was pretty much the same all the way through. If anything, it got a little worse over the 10 copies.

I think the developer needs changing. Is this a difficult job? And can someone help me out with how to do the ATDC adjustment once that's done, I haven't been able to source a manual on this machine.

Thanks very much for your help guys.

              Frank.

BUT!!!... MAKE SURE you clean out the recycling belt at the front of the drum unit (2 screws)! The toner tends to back up in this section and cause poor cleaning, vac behind the cleaning blade, if the recycling isn't clean you will also pass old toner into the new dev at setup and may cause incorrect TD levels.

I would also change the charge wire and as I mentioned before, the ozone filter.
