Hello everyone! I have quite a few 2510's with the HDD removed(companies are going crazy about those after that show was aired on TV about info being left on office equipment) and was wondering if that's something that must be ordered from Ricoh? Wasn't sure if Ricoh loads stuff on there, or if a blank one is installed, can the copier format it? They are Toshiba laptop HDD's, I have a model number and such. Just wanted some input before I ordered one to try it out... Thanks fo rany input.

most ricoh copiers can run without a hard drive as the system software is loaded on NVRAM. You won't be able to print, fax, use a finisher or copy large documents as there is only so much the RAM of the copier can hold at any given time. You can order the hard drives from ricoh but I don't believe that they are model number specific hard drives as some of the canons are. And yes there is a hard drive format in service mode in the 5-8oo's. There is also a Data Overwrite Security that can be purchased as an option for the ricohs that automatically erases anything on the hard drive. -
Ricoh also stores all data on the drive in a proprietary format so even if someone were to open the drive and see the contents, unless they had access to Ricoh's 0s and 1s they still wouldn't be able to read anything. I saw that report and I was shocked to see that some lazy company out there was storing their documents in PDF! Does anyone know what make(s) of copier they were using in that report?Comment
