    Replacing Savin 4535c hard drives

I have researched this site but cannot find a definitive answer regarding replacing the hard drives on the Savin 4535C. I hope someone here might be able to help.
I have read that two generic 40 gig HDD jumpered as masters will work - the machine does the rest. I have installed a matched pair of used Hitachi 40 GB (the client wants the originals back), but get SC860 hard drive error, plus those regarding the address book, etc.
Both drives were checked out, formatted, unformatted (partition removed), and I've used about every "magic" word I know.
I have tried formatting in SP 5-832-001, and receive "failed".
Has anyone ever successfully installed used hard drives? Any special formatting needed on the drive? Any help is greatly appreciated!

As I recall those drives are partitioned as RAID at the factory and thats the only ones that will work.

So, the third-party drives I find online will not work either? I actually called one suppier, and they have no clue about how the drives are set up - just say that "it will work in the models listed".
      Thanks for your reply.

Generally, the older single drive machines will work with an off the shelf HD but not the dual drives

I have used shop bought HDD's before as a pair, just format them in a Pc first, I actually have a USB connector for my laptop, that lets me format them on site.

Reformat the hard drives in a PC? How? NTFS, FAT? If RAID, which?

I Have just formatted in FAT from my laptop, then use the machine format when they are in, the partitions required are created by the MFP.

                  x2 I agree to daveyball.
just format it on a PC and format again on SP mode when they are in or if it's new you can directly format it on the machine.
you can also use any size of HHD even higher(e.g 160 GB)

I must not be holding my face right or something. I formatted to FAT32 with no luck. Just get HDD errors, etc on machine, and it won't format them. Any other ideas?

Have you tried formatting the original HDDs, there may be nothing wrong with them, can you try the new drives in another machine, you could have a contoller fauly here

The old drives work fine; the machine just came off lease and the client wants the hard drives for security reasons, and we are trying to oblige.
Thanks for your help, but it seems they will have to settle for a format or purchase new drives for the machine.
