    [Misc] Need Savin C4040 and 9040 to automatically report meter readings

    The customer doesn't want us to call to get their meter readings, it's too much of an incovenience (). I am trying to use a meter-reporting software called FM Audit, but i cannot get it to co-operate with their proxy/firewall. I know a lot of Sharp and Kyocera copier have schedules you can create to have it periodially send the meter to an email address. Wondering if these machines have that feature, can't seem to find it. Someone suggested i try using Smart Device Monitor Admin, but i don't see any feature like that in the software, either. Ideas/suggestions/solutions?

      Thanks for that, but neither we or the customer are going to spend money on this. They can be inconvenienced with the 3 minute phone call if I can't get a free solution to work

        What he said.
        Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

          @Remote is a free service, it's already embedded in the device. You just need to activate it with a registration code. There is also a hardware appliance that can be put on the customers network if they have a large fleet of mfp's (generally 5 or more, which Ricoh direct doesn't charge for). This solution will monitor usage and service conditions and can automatically generate service calls and send supplies as needed. Attached is a brochure to further explan (Savin logo but still the same across the board).

              We use 2 other solution that are OK for reporting meters. 1 is Page Trac, and the other is Print Tracker. both will require that you load an agent on a PC that would stay on.

              It will cost anywhere from .70 to a dollar a month per machine. our meter collection people like that they don't have to call customers.

                Well, it looks like i might have finally got FMAudit working on their network. It has been reporting properly for 2 days now. Thanks for the replies, and i am definitely looking into many of these suggestions for implementation now and in the near future.

                  Does it need some sort of SDK installing onto the machine?

                    No, you can just web in as admin, go to RC Gate setup in input a registration code. It should come back as accepted then you select program. This registration is sent to the server in Japan and takes a few minutes to come back as complete. As long as the device can access the web then it shouldn't have a problem. If the SMTP is setup, the key op can have automatic emails sent to him/her if issues develop in addition to the issue being sent to @Remote - depending on the check boxes selected (door open, SC errors, toner low/out, jams, etc.). If an SC is not reset within 30 min (default, can be changed), it will self generate a service call. Also 10 jams in a row can generate one also. More detailed setup parameters can be changed in the service mode, web setup works in most cases.

                    *I'm not sure what generation of machines this was started in, pretty much most GW devices I think.

                        I apologize, I didn't realize that dealers are charged. I work for a direct Ricoh office and just had to take an e-learning course to get certified to be able to access the @Remote system. We don't bill the end user but maybe it's a cost to the office that I never see (subscription fee?).
                        We have one 'guru' in our office that is sort of the lead person we go to if we have issues, otherwise I just request a set of codes and keep them on hand until I use them on an install. I'm attaching a link to the requirements for dealers to register and be able to market it. It looks like several steps - register the dealership, get sales and service techs trained (< 1 day) and a WebEx seminar. Not sure, but maybe you have to do this through Ricoh Europe but at least you can check it out.

                        @Remote agreement
                        @Remote solution page <this page talks about the appliance box (used for larger accounts, goes on their network) but embedded @Remote is already preinstalled in current mfp's and only needs to be activated. There is some other configuring you would do, like going to the portal and filling out customer info for that particular registration.

                          "Most" A05 machines (Read "Autumn of 2005") and newer have the embedded available, but there are a number of exceptions. That means that you need to specifically check your model(s) before committing to your customer that the embedded will work.

                          The @Remote Appliance, on the other hand, will go back to Autumn 01 machines "officially", but Ricoh Support told me that it will go back farther than that.

                          If it matters to you, the Appliance will also "monitor" (get meters only) for non-Ricoh devices, although none are specifically supported. It should also be noted that only total meters are read by the Appliance with non-Ricoh machines; it won't get the color counts like it will with Ricoh boxes. That can make a huge difference if you bill for color clicks at a higher rate.
