[Misc] Savin 2238C email settings for fax to email

    Hi All,
I'm pulling my hair out. Machine connected to network, and per the manuals there is a function where it can transfer faxes received by email.
I've been trying everything, and I am confused whether the email server is the local office domain exchange box (which gets email from an ISP via pop3) (so intranet) or if it is actually the external ISP (optimum online) - the idea is a fax comes in, and it goes to a local user's mailbox within the office.
I did see a post somewhere that said exchange may require relaying to be turned on.
The office is sbs 2008 with (obviously) exchange 2007
I can post settings if anyone is interested or able to help - very many thanks!

The address has to be listed in the address book. In user tools>fax settings, find fax forwarding and choose the address. Relay has to be on, only if emailing outside of the local network. You can also choose whether or not to also print out the fax after it is forwarded

many thanks for your reply (your username cracks me up)
i have both the email addresses and the smb listed for the users.
i do not want to email out of the intranet.
i have selected the user mailbox in fax forwarded. it is not forwarding.
for now the faxes are printing, then i'll set the bit to disable same - but in the meantime i can see the faxes inside the beast, but can't get them to forward via email.
under email settings, i've been wavering between using the intranet settings or external email settings - i'd MUCH rather go intranet to remove internet issues from the equation.
are there common settings that i'm messing up? (probably)
under address book i have the "real" full blown internet email address - username@domain.com
under tcp/ip i have the dhcp disabled (i want the server to handle it - though i've given the machine a static ip address)
i have WINS disabled (tried it with on and the server address)
for domain name - i have just the domain's err, name - not name.com and not name.local
for default gateway i have the router (same gateway the server uses)
i had DNS server from DHCP enabled (and have tried it off in the past)
i had it at all zeros just now, i just turned it off, and entered dns server being the server's ip
      lan fax had worked fine
any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated

thanks for the quick reply. i didn't know ping was available from the machine - can you advise how? in the meantime, i think i'm going to try scanning to email and if i can get that to work the fax to email should work - and this way i don't have to keep dealing with faxes - if you can give more info or suggestions that would be great - thanks!

I have searched the op manual and cant find it. I am thinking that model is too early to include this feature. (Handy one tho)

i'm pretty sure it doesn't have it - but i think the "easiest" thing is trial and error using scanning - faxing takes 2 minutes each try, i have to go to another fax, etc. - if the scan to email "gateway" works then the fax gateway should as well.
are you able to see anything from my settings that may give a clue as to what i'm doing wrong? thanks so much!

Hi - still no joy. I may try (again) emailing through the net via smtp and the isp if I can't get this figured out - it's a shame I can't forward the fax to smb which works fine. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Do you have SMTP services enabled on your server? They're not by default.

You must be able to successfully scan to email before fax forwarding will work.

While this model is new enough to do the forwarding, I'm almost 100% sure that it can only do so as a .tif file. (Some newer models can do .tif or .pdf).

Once the scan-to-email function works, you need to choose a programmed scan destination for the faxes to go to.

Not an intuitive process by any means (and poorly documented to boot!), but it should work for you.

Hi ken - I agree - no no scan to email = no fax to email. I do have forwarding enabled , and can download as pdf. My challenge is sending along intranet or at worst internet. Very frustrating. I ettinger if there's is a firmware upgrade somewhere...do my settings look alright?

I have forwarding enabled but it is not forwarding - the faxes within the machine waiting to be downloaded (which I can manually). I'm confident once the scan to email settings work so will the forwarding function - I just can't seem to find the right email settings

Thanks all - solution completed. Jomama46 was kind enough to give me suggestions via pm, which worked in getting the thing to work via internet/my isp/smarthost - and it was an acceptable though less than ideal solution.
On experts-exchange, a kind soul mentioned that i needed my exchange relay on to accept from the machine - once i went into the exchange management console, and the hub transport, it worked like a champ - with the benefit that i'm getting my desired .pdf output, versus the less desireable (to me) tiff output.
Thanks again - the help from the community was very much appreciated, and i hope this helps someone!
