    [Misc] Ricoh MP2000 noise, squeak

We have a Ricoh MP2000 that has a noise or squeak that sounds like a leaf spring vibrating or cleaning blade chatter. The "speed" of the sound looks/sounds like drum drive. We've heard it without the PCU in the machine and have compleatly cleaned and lubed the drive gear pack. Swapped fusers and cleaned turn around section. The worst part is it does not make the noise all the time. Any ideas?

Either the fuser fingers, once they get a build up of toner under them they will "sing". Also check the toner hoper, they will also squeak when it rotates.

It may be the mylar in the xfer cleaning unit. Pull it out and reset it. Or replace the cleaning unit.

Just to be sure, have you done an output check? Sometimes the feed roll/sep pad interaction will give you a pretty loud chatter.

Thanks for the responses! We have replaced the toner hopper, fuser, and PCU. Even had the toner hopper and PCU out of the machine while in output free run. Will double check the output on feed roll/sep pad and exit claws. It's possible the new fuser is doing the same thing. The sound is very high pitched and does not happen very often. Thanks again.

How about the exit rollers driven by the belt coming from the top of the drive pack or the spring loaded drive gears that drive the fuser? This box is pretty cheaply made, lots of plastic on plastic movement. I spent 3 hours today on one replacing the gear that drives the reg clutch (stripped teeth). What a joke, had to pull it apart 3 times to get it working right and stripped the holes that the gear box mounts to (it's not made to be removed more than once in its lifetime apparently).

Agree! very cheaply made! Did the same thing thinking that's where the noise was coming from. Removed the exit roller today, cleaned and now testing. By the speed of the exit roller, really don't think that's the problem, noise is a lot slower sounding. Probably should order part # MP2000 but I'm told all of these models make this noise. Not Ricoh's best product!

I have found that the pressure cleaning roller squeaks in its bushings. I have put lithium grease on them but squeak will eventually return. This machine might run find without this cleaning roller? Haven't tried it myself.

I have to go out on a regular basis and lube up the plastic rollers etc around the inverter and exit unit.....Happy lubing....:^>

+1 - both possibilities are very common for this machine series
