[Misc] Ricoh CL4000DN Where/how do I find printer updates? Does it do PCL 6 or not?

Ricoh CL4000DN Where/how do I find printer updates?
I'm not referring to the PC based software & printer drivers (unless the printer microcode can be updated from the PC).
Config says PCL-5/c/e but specs say the printer will do PCL 6.
Does it do PCL 6 or not?

    Other features/changes/improvements?

    Thanks,
    John

According to the Product Support Guide, the CL4000 (G104) supports only PCL5c, RPCS and PS3. If you are supporting supporting Ricoh products you should have access the TSRC site where you can get all the technical files such as manuals and firmware etc.

There is remote firmware for the G104, so updating can be done from a PC for System, Engine, DESS, Printer and WebSystem firmwares via the unit's web interface. NIB and NetworkDocBox modules have to be done via SD card. Current versions from the firmware history document are:

    Engine G1025130H v1.12:01 - November 2005
    System (Controller) G1045239H v1.09 - October 2005
    Printer G1045243L v1.12 - September 2008
    WebSys G1045235D v1.08 - May 2006
    NIB G1045234E v4.15.2 - October 2005
    NetworkDocBox G1045242C v1.00.1 - October 2005
    DESS B1805957D v3.07 - May 2006

As a general rule Ricoh only updates firmware for bug fixes and to improve compatibility as Micro$oft changes things, never to actually 'enhance' or add functionality, for that you need to buy a new one .

Zed255 - Thank you. I thought in one of the guides I had seen a reference to PCL 6 - or maybe it is because the Ricoh web site lists PCL 6 drivers when you look up the G104 CL4000DN model.
I will check the information you provided against my printer's config sheet later tonight.
What is URL for the TSRC web site? I have experience on HP LJ's and I am the Printer Technician at my house but am not a Ricoh certified technician or anything like that. I do have a copy of the service manual.
      Thank you.

Unfortunately the site is only accessible to Ricoh direct and dealer technical services, no technician ID number and password, no access. Unless you are having a specific issue you believe that a firmware update will fix I'd leave it be. Otherwise it is best to have a technician do it, it is easy to brick a unit if you are not careful.

As a side note, a second look ate the PSG doesn't list PCL6 in the quick features overview, but digging deeper shows PCL6 is in fact supported. If the config sheet lists PCL XL then you have PCL6 available. I apologize if I misinformed.

          Zed,
Thank you. I'll check for that. Pretty obscure that you even know that PCL XL is PCL 6!
          Thanks,
          John
