There isn't supposed to be any recoverable data just by simply by attaching to a PC. The best bet would be to use Linux as most flavours support a wider range of filesystems than do Windoze. Even then, the file structure is supposed to be proprietary. Last time I had to recover anything (document server contents) I had to use the 1224c and a file format converter option.

I'm now uncertain what you want.

If the HDD is in the 1224c you can use Web Image Monitor to 'see' some stuff like document server but unless the 1224c has the File Format Converter option you can't do anything with it. If the converter is in place you can download the document server files to a PC. Smart Device Monitor for Admin may be able to access the address book, but the 1224c is old enough that I'm not 100% on that.

What exactly are you trying to 'browse' the disk for?

I think your best bet would be to try the Umbuntu forums. Other than that you are SOL without a Windows OS and FFC option, ( if it is even available for this old dog.)
