    MP171 Address Book Data Error

Dudes - I have read the last few posts regarding this but I still cant resolve this. We have had this come up on 4 171's in the last couple of months....One was fixed with a new controller board, one was fixed with SP 5846-50 and nothing seems to fix the other 2 so far.....

On the 2 machines still faulty I have tried SP 5846-50 (Ini All Addr B), SP 5810-15 (Clr UCS Setting), tried another print/scan card and also a new controller board all with no fix. Also tried firmware and an All memory Clear.

When going into the address book thru the control panel it comes up with SC819 - the fix in the manual says firmware. The only other thing I can think of to try is replacing the RAM card as there is no HD.

    Any other suggestions?

    Cheers.

I've had this exact problem on 4 occasions so far and the fix for each one has been different except in one case.

One was fixed by a simple power on/off. As far as i know it hasnt come back and it has been about a year now.

One i did firmware but didnt fix it. Then i did the Controller board and the problem went away for two weeks then re-appeared. I put the original controller board back in and the problem hasnt re-occurred.

And for two (including the most recent one about 1 wk ago) i changed the controller board and it fixed it. Firmware was also done prior to replacing the controller board but had no impact.

I've been told all sorts of different solutions from tech support: some said it was the controller, some said it was the EEPROM chip and some say it was the battery on the controller board having bad solder joints thus causing loss of address book data hence the reason why power off/on fixes the problems sometimes

        hope this helps.

Thanks Scoobysteve - since i wrote this post ive had another that was fixed by just turning it on and off as you suggested. The other 2 faulty machines still havn't been fixed and are sitting in our workshop awaiting a response from our tech support.

We have sent our controller boards up to them to see if they work in other machines. Apart form that i cant really say much more except that im sure its the controller board and i think we go a faulty one from new.

I will update once its sorted.
          Cheers!
