    Ricoh RW-240

    Hello,
Can someone point me in the right direction to obtain parts (and knowledge) needed to convert free standing 240w into networked printer/scanner. Thanks in Advance

The RW-240 requires a PC with a special interface card in it, an interface card in the 240, and software called "Plotbase" to print, and "Scanbase" to scan.

Unless a dealer has a used one available somewhere, you're out of luck, as the product is no longer made. (The newer versions of the 240 have internal controllers.)

FYI... get ready for some serious sticker shock...no idea what used prices might be, but if I remember correctly, the option was the best part of $4,000 - $5,000 new.

HUGE CAUTION!!! Even if you do find one, licensing is an adventure with these things. Make sure that anything you buy is guaranteed to have a good license.

Personally, I would look into trading in the 240 on either of its replacements, the W24000 or W3600. No PC required, and WAAAAY better performance. (I just set up a W2400 the other day. Saweeet!)

        @ KenB

where do you think I can get a replacment Led Head Unit for the 240w?? My dealer is no help, it seems that they are no longer sopporting this machine, they are trying to sell me an OCE. Anyway, any advice will be greatly appriciated becuase our machine is only 4 years old and very under used so to change it now will be a waste of money.

        Thanks in advance!!

KenB will have more insight on this, but this model was introduced in May 2004. I couldn't find a specific support end date for this model, but generally we will keep on working on them (and collect revenue) until we can't get parts anymore. Parts are still available as far as I can tell, but you will need to balance the cost of repairing an older model compared to the generally lower cost of service and maintenance contracts on something more recent. Some of the more or less tangible benefits of a newer device would be higher productivity and longer time between service calls, but then again your current device sounds like it's in fairly good condition.
Anyway, here are the part #s for the LED head

            Hi, Dwayne,

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but given the basic lack of support of this machine by Ricoh, your dealer most likely isn't pulling your leg.

AFAIK, my dealership only placed maybe 3 or 4 of these ever, and I know that at least 2 of them have already been traded in on the newer Ricoh machines.

As TeeBee mentioned, there is no listing on the dealer site for the things we can get for almost any machine, such as parts and service manuals or the dates showing when parts and support are discontinued. HIGHLY unusual!

Given the cost of the parts that TeeBee already got for you ($$$$), you may want to seriously consider that Oce or the much more modern version of the W240, the W2400 or 3600. Both are excellent. (We used to carry the Oces in one city, and while I know nothing about them, I've heard nothing but good things.)

I really can't imagine the part you need being available on the 'Net or elsewhere; the numbers just aren't there.
