Customer called to tell me that their Ricoh Aficio 3045 copier was shutting itself off during the day but they couldnt tell me whether or not it was the whole machine shutting off or just the display. They tried other power outlets to see if perhaps that was the problem but even in the third outlet that the tried it is still doing the same thing. Customer also says it tends to happen near the end of the day. They also say that when the copier comes back up it seems as if a surge goes through it. Could this be a copier problem or what the customer is thinking, their power outlets? They have also had other things plugged into the outlets that the copier was once plugged in to but these things had no problems, however they do not draw as much power as the copier does, and no circuit breakers are tripping. Any help appreciated, thank you.

Hmm, sounds like bollocks to me. If it is possible, try leaving the machine on but with any peripherals (finisher etc) disconnected to see whether it still does it. The next port of call would be the fuser probably, but I reckon it's more likely that they're talking shite and it's going into one of its more advanced power-save modes.Comment

I had a 3035 doing this, more so when using the finisher. Didn't do it with the finisher removed and turned out to be the power supply. It had just become marginal and was shutting down with the added load the finisher was putting on the system.Comment

I can't find a relay on the power switch that will turn it off.
Tape the main switch cover closed and see if it turns itself off.
If the tape is broken, charge them for the research time you have done for f'n with you.Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment

Or put a note on the front of the machine saying "Touch this switch and I will put your dangling bits through the document feeder" and then draw an arrow pointing to the main power switch. Then glare at everybody one the way out.
My customer service skills need some work though.Comment
