MP171SPF - "Preparing an Authent. Device. Please Wait" message

    Hi All,

I've just changed a controller board to resolve an "Address Book Data" and SC819 error on a MP171SPF. When i turned the MFD back on and switch over to the fax function i get a "Preparing an Authent. Device. Please wait" message with an "Exit" option above the right most button along the button of the LCD screen. this message stays and never goes away - i've left it for about 4 days with the message still there.

I can go into user tools and i see all functions except the fax features. I can go into service and the fax option is not available.

While testing to try and troubleshoot the "Address book data" error, i used a controller board out of another MP171SPF and when the test controller board was put back into its original machine, i too got the same "Preparing an Authent. Device. Please wait" message however it went away after a few minutes and the machine functioned as per normal.

So if anyone can shine any light on what i can do it would be much appreciated. thank you. thanks in advance.

    Kind Regards

    Steve

Just in case someone comes across this problem, it turns out that it is the MBU that is at fault.

I'm a n00by here but the MBU wasn't faulty, just not seated correctly.

        Hi,

I tried a different MBU and the problem went away. I re-installed the "Faulty" MBU and the problem re-occurred. I've even taken of battery backup support and left the board disconnected for a few hours but had no success when reinstalled and battery backup enabled again.

I stand corrected. You received a defective Memory Board Unit but it wasn't my fault.

I had exactly the same problem on an MP2500 this week! The customer had another identical machine. I removed the address book SD card from the faulty machine fitted it in the "good" machine and allowed the machine to fully boot. When I refitted the "Faulty" card in the "Faulty" machine everything was fine! Machine has now been ok for 3 days with no problem!
