MP 171SPF lost supervisor and administrator password

Thanks for the update - that's not really a good news that you need a new controller just because someone forgot a password. I had this once - a customer got a refurbished machine (MPC2500) wich hasn't been checked properly because there was no chance to enter the web interface via admin/supervisor log in. Lucky that the previous customer found a note with the individual log in data so there was no need to replace the NVRam (or more^^).

Replace the controller PCB

We have an MP 171SPF which was traded in and it was discovered when we turned on admin authentication that the default admin logon (admin, no password) had been changed and nobody (including original customer) knew what it had been changed to. Tried supervisor (no password) but that had also been changed. Tried SP 7810 but that only exists on the MP 171 base model and not the GW controller model. Tried SP5801 -011 -NCS clear and that did not work. OK, we thought, we need to replace the NVRAM. Ordered a new NVRAM and replaced it - inputted serial number and thought 'that will do it'. Re-enabled admin authentication in user tools and tried logging in 'admin- no password' - DIDN'T WORK! - authentication failed again!! Tried supervisor - same thing!!! WE had an SMC report from before all this so tried an 'all clear' - no change! Next tried an engine clear (SP 5998) - still locked out!!! Have pretty much tried everything suggested from this site, Gooses' guide, knowledgebase, etc. - any ideas???

UPDATE2: Replacing the Controller together with NVRAM (all new) resolved the issue - all passwords are now back to factory default. I suspect just replacing the NVRAM didn't resolve the issue because DOSS had been installed on the machine at some point and it's security features had cause the passwords to be stored in the controller as well as the NVRAM on this machine.

I haven't run into it yet but we have used Ikon and Ricoh direct machines coming into the shop for rebuild and resale all the time.

Make sure you initialize the adresbook again, otherwise scan2folder and/or scan2mail won't work.
You can add an adres, but the scans dissapear into oblivian....
So initialize !
The replacement of controllerboard and nvram is the only solution when passwords are missing and can't be retreived.
I had this customer who made some changes to the adresbook and also changed passwords, while doing so the switch flickered due a faulty powersupply...it cost him lots of money.
