    Easy, available print function

    Hey guys,

One of my sales guys has gone promising a little too much to a customer (like that never happens...) so I have a problem to solve. Hope that you might be able to help me out.

The customers situation is they have a sales squad that are usually working from outside the network. When they come back in they need to start their computers up in order to print. They'd like to make that part faster and easier, by having the print stored in the machine when they arrive in the mornings. Obviously that would require some sort of vpn connection or similar and that's unfortunally out of the question...

Or the next best thing - if they could have their print jobs on a USB stick and just plug it straight into the machine, which is an MPC2800, and just print directly from the display. As far as I know, only the newest model MPC3001 has this option, am I right?

    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Peace sells, but who's buying?

In sweden. Same options are usually available here too... but does that USB option work for printing from a USB stick as well? I know there's a thing called 'pictbridge' but I though (as the name implies) it only worked with pictures?

On the MPC2800 the USB/SD option is a scanning destination, AFAIK you can't print from it. They may be able to open port 515 in the router and forward that traffic to the MPC2800 and use IPP. I've not personally tried it but have been told it should work. They would then use the 'hold' or lock' print options.

Now that sounds like an option I actually understand I'll try it in our own environment first and report back with results!

One correction, LPD is port 515, IPP is 631.
