Have you read the security manual about the role of the supervisor? I don't have a 3224c manual handy. But, one I do have has all kinds of rules and restrictions.

Yes I did.... and I also checked the assigned right to the supervisor and it does have read and write access to changing the admin password (or so it seems)...is there a way to just re-set this machine and start new...I have contacted Richoh and gestetner and they are stumped ???

Admin's have unlimited read/write capabilities, where as Supervisors have limited capabilities. This feature was set up so that one person, an admin, could delegate tasks to supervisors. Such as, allowing one person to add/delete user accounts and codes in the address book. Another person to allow changes to be made to the Copier/Docserver settings, etc..., but nothing else could be changed by these individuals. Nor could anyone else make changes other than those two.

So, you can log in as Admin and assign a supervisor a new password, but not visa versa.

Does that help you out... God! It's late and I can't go back to sleep, so I came here and got myself all wrapped up on who's on third...

I know it does not sound right, but it is the other way around dude.

The supervisor account is used to change a forgotten admin password.
Apart from that single function the supervisor account is pretty much useless.

But if someone changes and forgets the supervisor password it's game over. The NVRAM needs to be replaced to restore the factory default password value.

I've certainly not experienced or heard of any instance apart from this one where a logged on supervisor cannot sucessfully change a admin password.

              Very strange.

Sorry unisys12 but the DaZ is right on the supervisor. It's the last resort backdoor to recover when the admin's PW has been changed and lost.I've had 2 use it a couple times and it went as designed. Don't forget that you can assign different admin rights to 4 different users, but none can have the same rights as another. The supervisor can reset anyone or all but you must save the changes !!! Other than that you can try reseting the NCS (?) in sp mode for memory clear if that doesn't do it , it's NVRAM time!!!!!
