    Ricoh CL3500N Error SC 486

I ws told the wrong error code but when i got th and turned on th machine found this. Right from start up it would make a grinding sound and would immediately go to a SC 486
I tried several times then i turned off..removed all cartridges.,gently removed excess toner in toner area, then turned on machines..when it asked for the cartridges i resat them 1 at a time. I was then able to print several pages. A few days later i get a call saying it has happened again. I had him replace all the cartridges since they were almost empty and seemed to solve it when i was there but he still got the same message. My understanding is the drums can cause this error but would love some feedback as i would like to be able to get as close to solving it as possible when i walk in on monday.
    Thank you
    Derrick

    BK solenoid error

    The BK solenoid cannot
    drive the black PCU.

    • Defective connection between engine control board
    (CN21) and BK solenoid
    • Pin 1 (CN21 on engine control board) unable to
    send solenoid control signal
    • Defective drive unit
    1. Connect the cable between the engine control
board (CN21) and BK solenoid correctly.
    2. Replace the engine board.
    3. Replace the drive unit.

Okay, brace yourself. Replace the black PCU. If that fails, main drive unit. There are only two fixes for this fault, I've tried everything else I can think of and nothing else works.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

ok thank you.Yea i read up a little bit on this after i posted. If it is the main gear drive assembly probably not worth the repair. Several hours plus parts???
What causes the actual horrible grinding sound though.I know they don't list that in the service manuals but someone with experience may know hte cause. If i know the cause maybe i can address it without replacing everything. Just an idea.

X2, whenever I've seen this and the pcu didn't fix it then we've always replaced the entire printer.

Don't start struggling around - since the repair costs are probably high and hard to estimate I'd strongly recommend to hand this over to a salesman. The only thing you might try is the BK unit but I won't go any further.
