[Misc] Ricoh MP C2800 vs 3001

    Hi there

I am in the market for 2 new multifunction devices. Been offered the MP C2800 but was wondering if anyone can give pointers on how it compares to the new MP C3001. Essentially need 4 tray colour device (A4 + A3), true Adobe Postscript, scan to email (LDAP support). Will be replacing Canon iR C2880i/3380i devices.

    Cheers, Paul

I'm assuming the Canon's are 28 and 38cpm machines respectively? I wouldn't replace them with either of the models listed. It'd be either a 4000 or a 4501.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

The new series (3001/3501/4501/5501) are equipped with a standard Postscript3 Unit. I thought this is an option for the MPC2800.

It's a little early to discuss the relative merits of the two as the 3001 has not been "in the field" for very long. However, we've had relatively few issues with any of the MPc type machines and the main advances have been in paper handling capabilities and a tiny bit of speed. With this in mind, I'd go for the 3001 but put very little store in the App2Me applications as these rely on Google Desktop which is widely viewed as spyware by a lot of IT professionals. However, the standard Java does support such features as Flex Secure Print (Ricoh's answer to Equitrac) which, having been on the training course, looks like a nice little bit of software for relatively small money. Unless you look at the server-based solution, in which case it gets a tad more pricey!

!!! I HOPE Postscript is an OPTION, because a) it says so in the manual, and b) I just installed a seperate Postscript card in 14 MPC3501 / 5501 machines!!!

It is definitely an OPTION on the MPc3001 as you can see here

Check under the printer heading in specifications.

This is the same for the 3501 and 5501.
