    Aficio 2105 Jam Code 20

The machine prints the first set of a 109 page document all duplexed just fine.
It does not matter how many times you send the print job the first set always prints out ok.

Then just a couple of sheets into the second set it jams.

The only jam code being logged in the SMC is "20. Duplex Transport Sensor 1" (paper is late) all other jam counters are zero.

I've replaced the duplex sensor in question but it's made no difference.
First set prints ok, second set jams... it does not make any sence to me at all.

I've tried different trays and paper stock and tried doing these sets using just the copier function instead of sending it as print job... the result is same.

    Any ideas?

I'm sure you have checked these, but thought I would pass along the info anyway... Just in case. Bear in mind, I don't service these and referenced this info from the Gooses Guide.

1 - Short edge feed papers - tighten stepper motor drive belts

2 - [SP7-504-20] - clean and lube bushings on the duplex roller shafts for horizontal transport

    3 - check/ replace duplex entrance clutch

DaZ that duplex clutch is a common failure on this box, and a mandatory car stock item for the HV tech's. I think the # is AX200171. The clutch will get hot after running for a while then it will jam pretty consistantly. This model only uses 1 clutch where the previous one used 2 of these.

We narrowed it down to either a possible timing bug or static build up from the blank 160gm rear cover sheet as it passes through the machine.

The workaround was to have the customer insert the blank rear cover sheet from the interposer on the finisher rather than letting it go through the machine.
The 160gm front cover is still being sourced from tray 4 as both side are printed on that one.

The customer had done appox 60k today and it's been fine since making that change.

          Fuzzy memory.....must be getting old.....

Had a similar problem recently. First set printed fine, then bam jammed at start of next set. Problem was involved with defining the paper size/type either at the print driver or the paper tray.

I agree with Scott. The drivers provided by Ricoh were not the best, and I recall several similar anomalies on several models. I bet if you started the whole original job over, it would run fine to the same point, wouldn't it?
