    Ricoh 4430NF not printing

I work at a Konica dealer but we do sell the desktop Ricoh units, mainly the 171s. I had a customer call in and wanted a fax with a lot of quick dials. I sold them a 4430NF.

    Now I have two issues...

    1. I can not get this unit to print through the network port. I have tried using port 9100 and 10001 and tried using a lpr port with print as the queue name. No luck. Either the job will just sit in the queue or it will leave the queue but never print, depending on what port setting I am using. I am not getting any errors on the printer. I can ping the printer and open its webpage.

***edit*** Ummm... I think I know why it is not printing, the print option is not standard on the 4430NF??? Oh boy, looks like I screwed up on this one.

    2. They would like to scan to their email. I created a few email address quick dials and it works fine except it sends the file as a tiff. It did change the user switch 17 that determines if it sends as a tiff or pdf. But it still sends as a tiff. If the email address is manually typed in, then it goes through as a pdf which is what they want.

I am going to go back today with my laptop and test printing directly to it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Although I am a Konica tech, I am familiar with the Ricoh service modes.

The LPR queue name is actually lp for this model. If you can hit the webpage of the machine and scan, then you have print capability. LPR is usually the best way to get these antiquated print controllers to work. Not sure on the scan issue, though you may want to check SP mode.

When you want to forward the fax to a folder you can select PDF of TIFF. When you forward faxes to email it only uses TIFF.

Is there some security software running that's blocking print jobs? Or firewalls?

From what I can tell from Ricoh's website, the 4430N does not have network print out of the box. I would need the print controller option which is discontinued. That sucks but at least I know why it is not printing.

This customer only wants to scan to email and they must have it in pdf format. I have decided that the best thing to do is give them a Ricoh 171SPF and be done with it.

Thanks for the suggestions and help, it is very much appreciated.

You've hit on the better solution: the 171 is also cheaper than the 4430 with more features and easier management. Yet the 4430 is is just a 171 with an old controller and no scan glass!

Yeah, she caught me off guard by asking for a heavy duty fax which immediately had me looking at the fax models available. I will not make that mistake again.
