I have two Ricoh Aficio 650 copiers with the exact same symptoms. They sometimes work, but eventually display an SC101 code. I have replaced the exposure lamps, home position sensors and flexible boards (ribbon cables.) Both machines exhibit the same symptom. On power up, the lamp is supposed to move to the right and back to left (with lamps off.) The lamps should then light up, move to right, move to left and sense the white area. What happens is they both move to right and back to left, then light up and move to the right, then just as they start back to left to look at the white area, the lamps turn off and the SC101 comes up. I am hoping since both copiers exhibit the same symptoms that someone will have a fix. Thanks in advance!

A shot in the dark but these models are known for the set screw in the scanner pulley to either shear off or back out. It may be that the pulley is slipping on the shaft (with some friction) and not returning the scanner fast enough. It would be unusual for it to happen to both but worth a check.Comment
