I have the duplex set up as default with underyellow arrow under the box. Went through user tools to set it to SIMPLEX but can't find it anywhere. Help appreciated thanks t

Default as duplex in what? Copy or print?
If it's set to duplex every print job then you need to change to setting in the print driver on your PC.
If it's set to duplex every copy then you need to deselect the duplex (1 to 2/2 to 2) option on the copier screen, press the "programs" hardkey and then select "set as defaults" -
