    RICOH MP 171SPF with fax forwarding to email in PDF

    Hello there,

    We have one MP 171 with scanning to email configured with multi-page PDF but when it fax forwards to email the attachment is a TIFF. How do we change it to PDF?
    I tried to look in User tools but i didn't find it.
    Fax printing is disabled.

      Forwarding is to TIFF as the machine uses its 'native' image format by default. To change it you set it in bit switches. Switch 21, bit 3 set to '1'.

      User Tools> Fax> Admin> Parameter Setting>Switch 21, alter bit 3 with the #3 on the keypad and save changes.

          When you forward your faxes to an email adress, the only format is TIFF. Switch 21 bit 3 changes the format to PDF, but this only works when you forward the faxes to a folder on the network.

              Exactly right!

              I've been down this road a few times already, and there a numerous hits on this site about the very same thing.

              The MP171 isn't the only model like this; there are several others.

                      Its because internet fax works only with tiff. minolta is nice in that regard because you can select any type of destination in the address book.

                          Wrong! Most Ricoh can be set to fax forward in PDF format. It is only some of the low end entry level models, most of which are not manufactured by Ricoh, that can only use TIFF.
