    Installing a C4501

I must be missing something. There is a bulletin and a revised SM that says when you set up this machine, to "remove the tape from the K developer unit only" Then goes on with installing the toners, etc. Never says to pull the tape from the color units. I have set up three of these and if I followed the new instructions, the tape would still be covering the color developer units.
The original SM said pull all four tapes.
    So WTF?

The one on Tessa says this in the installation instructions:

Remove the tape from the development units before you turn the main switch on. The development units can be severely damaged if you do not remove the tape.

I'd agree with it, the dev units would be severly shagged if they run dry.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

There is a Revised SM on Tessa as well as TSB RD089020 and both have "all four development units" crossed out and replaced with " Developer K" only. Have you seen that?

I've installed a couple of these now, and only the K dev has been taped on them. If yours indeed came with tapes on all devs they're probably pre-RD08902 units. The bulletin doesn't mention any serial nr. cut-in, but was released early december.

No, the only one I saw does say "revised" on the header but it says that you do need to remove all the tapes, just like when you're fitting a new complete dev unit to the older ones instead of just fitting new dev powder. Like I said before, it would confuse the shit out of the machine when it was trying to run TD sensor initial setting on the colour devs with the tape in.

            Makes sense.

I suspect the bulletin should only apply to GSA and EU models. They crossed out the line relating to these areas "not requiring steps 2 - 7" and have probably added the tape just to the K unit.
